watching for months. we're talking ohio, virginia, and florida. as it turns out, the president only needed one of those states. as soon as nbc news projected ohio for obama around 11:15, the president had enough electoral votes to keep him in the white house. as icing on the cake, though, the president did also pick up virginia, and he also picked up nevada early this morning. >>> in about two months, gay marriage will become legal in the state of maryland. voters upheld an amendment making same-sex marriage legal in the state. the assembly passed the amendment earlier this year, but opponents were able to put it on the ballot. other states had similar amendments on the ballot. voters in maine voted to legalize same-sex marriage while washington state is still counting the vote. in minnesota, a vote to ban same-sex marriage was shot down by voters. in maryland, prince george's is on its way to a new casino. the amendment passed, which will bring table games to maryland's existing casinos as well. it will help keep money inside the state rather than lose it to casinos in other states. >>> e

a florida man is now charged in connection with a crash that killed two people and injured three others in frederick county, maryland. the crash happened yesterday afternoon at route 75 and ed mcclain road in the monroe area. you can see the tractor-trailer loaded with oranges that overturned onto a pickup truck. two people inside the truck died on the scene. passengers in the truck and tractor-trailer were taken to the hospital. no word on their condition. police arrested the driver of the tractor-trailer watson pierre after he was released from the hospital last night. >>> the nationals season might have ended on a disappointing note, but fans have a reason to celebrate this morning. bryce harper is the national league rookie of the year. harper, who turned 20 last month, is the youngest position player ever to win the award. pitcher dwight gooden was one month younger when he won it in 1984. harper says he's honored but not satisfied with his rookie season. >> i'm never satisfied with any of my numbers. my biggest goal is winning the world series. this is amaze to go win this award a

at the military base in florida. the general insists he's friends with kelley, but paula broadwell apparently saw her as a romantic rival. the fbi is keeping quiet of a search of broadwell's home. agents searched her home for five hours last night. they left with several boxes. broadwell's relationship with petraeus first came to light when the fbi began investigating jill kelley's claims that broadwell had sent her threatening e-mails. and the fbi is putting together a time line of the investigation to explain to members of congress why they were kept out of the loop until recently. they didn't know about the probe until last tuesday even though it had been going on for months. senate intelligence chair dianne feinstein said she learned about it from the media last week. meantime, she says petraeus will still testify before the committee about last month's deadly attack on the embassy in libya. petraeus was supposed to testify about benghazi this week. >>> a deadly night in northeast washington has four people in the hospital. it stems from a triple stabbing and a shooting just three miles apart
about one of the military's most advanced fighter jets. an air force f-22 crashed yesterday at florida's air force base while returning from a training mission. the pilot ejected safely. the air force is investigating what caused the crash. it stopped flying the f-22 for part of last year because some pilots complained about becoming dizzy at the controls. the air force blamed the problem on a shortage of oxygen delivered to pilots. they said this summer the air force was starting to lift flight restrictions on the f-22s. >>> this morning president obama finally sits down with congressional leaders to try to reach a budget deal. leaders from both parties will come to the white house to start negotiations to avoid the fiscal cliff. the president and congress have to reach a deal by the end of the year to avoid steep tax hikes and spending cuts that could plunge us into another recession. some prominent republicans are distancing themselves from comments mitt romney made this week about the election. the gop nominee blames his loss, in part, on what he calls gifts president obama had giv
